Antarctica's deepest diving Quest: what an unexpected amazing world
Thousands of miles frozen Antarctic, beautiful and suffocating, but also cold daunting, but there is ice diving lovers paradise. Photographer Laurent Ballesta (Laurent Ballesta) should be directed by Luc Jacques (Luc Jacquet) invitation to Antarctica, the history of the deepest human diving adventure. It's not as lifeless as a desert, but a breathtaking world full of vitality.
The morning, when we arrived in France on foot East Antarctic research station, Ad lie Coast Dumont (Dumont D Urville dialville "), we must break the day before drilling on thin ice. The hole passes through 3 meters of floating ice. It is enough for adults to come in and out, and here is the wide ocean. We've never tried scuba diving through such a small opening, but I'm still in the lead.
According to the hand, knee, heel and flippers in the order, I swung through the hole. When I finally got into the icy water, I could not help looking back. The scene made me feel frightened, because the hole had begun to shut behind me. The bottom of sea ice is a thick layer of ice crystals floating on the ice, and my fall makes them move. They shrink near the hole and look like an inverted drain.
When I put one arm into the cold mud, I found it was close to 1 meters in thickness. Grab the safety rope, I was dragged a little bit, but my shoulder got stuck. Suddenly, I was shocked by the blow on my head. My diving partner Cedric Jatil (C dric Gentil) is trying to dig me out, his shovel hit my head. In the end, a hand caught me and dragged me into the air. Today's diving is over, but only finished 1/32.
